Sixty-eight percent of American households<\/span>, or 85 million families,<\/span> own a pet according to a 2017-18 National Pet Owners survey.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Considerably more <\/span>families than that feed <\/span>what are commonly known as “pet peeves.”<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Unlik<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span> most pets, pe<\/span><\/span>t peeves don’t usually require spaying or neutering, <\/span><\/span>although <\/span><\/span>the pet peeve owner <\/span><\/span>may require<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>o<\/span><\/span>me o<\/span><\/span>ther <\/span><\/span>form of professional <\/span><\/span>treatment<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span> Without taking specific preventive action when an owner\u2019s \u201cpet\u201d is peeved however, <\/span><\/span>howling at the moon or leaving little “surprises” in the neighbor’s flower<\/span><\/span>s can be expected.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

There is no <\/span>law how many <\/span>pet peeves an owner can have, but there appears to be a co-relation between a<\/span>dvancing a<\/span>ge and the number of pet peeves one <\/span>can successfully manage<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

For instance, below are three of my pet peeves…<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Pet Peeve #1  <\/strong><\/p>\n

The phrase “It is what it is” is like fingernails on <\/span>my mental chalkboard<\/span>. Whatever “it” is, logically “it is what it is” because what else <\/span>c<\/span>ould “it” be?! What it isn’t?! <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Does the validity of the phrase<\/span>,<\/span> \u201cIt is what it is\u201d depend upon what the meaning of the word<\/span><\/strong><\/a> \u201cis,\u201d is? What if “it” isn\u2019t what it is? If that\u2019s the case who <\/span>can <\/span>we <\/span>appeal<\/span> to and does it entitle us to a re<\/span>ward<\/span> or reparation?<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Pet Peeve #2<\/strong><\/p>\n

The phrase “people of color.”  As astute <\/span>readers<\/span> <\/span><\/i>ha<\/span>ve<\/span> been reminded ad nauseum by “The Squawk Squad<\/span><\/strong><\/a>,” all four of the loquacious quartet are “women of color.” <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

News flash: Every person is a “person of color,” and last I looked “white” is still a color. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

When Palestinian princess Rashida <\/span>Tlaib<\/span> or <\/span>Minnesomolian<\/span> <\/span>Ilhan<\/span> Omar whine <\/span>their policies are under<\/span> attack because they are women of color, couldn’t Tennessee’s junior senator Marsha Blackburn or Wyoming Representative Lynn Cheney say the same thing when their policies are criticized?<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Does darker skin pigment <\/span>mean your legislation is \u201clily white\u201d and can’t be criticized?  <\/span>Conversely, does being white mean you<\/span>r<\/span> <\/span>ideas are automatically offensive to \u201ccolorful\u201d woke legislators<\/span>? <\/span> <\/span>Who makes the rules in this game? Crayola?<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Pet Peeve #3<\/strong>  After every mass shooting (in Philadelphia it was while the shooting was still going on) Democrats never miss an opportunity to call for tighter restrictions on the gun rights guaranteed to us in the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n

In other words, they seek to punish, inconvenience, and make law abiding gun owners less safe due to the illegal actions of a solitary shooter.<\/p>\n

Enacting new gun restrictions after every mass shooting is like requiring all licensed drivers take a remedial driving class, renew their driver\u2019s license and pay more for their auto insurance after every hit and run fatality.<\/p>\n

The fact that almost all of the mass shootings take place in gun-free zones should be a clue that regardless of gun restrictions<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, the perps planning to shoot could care less about gun laws \u2013 thereby nullifying the \u201clet\u2019s-pass-another-guns-restriction\u201d law. <\/span><\/p>\n

Even worse, restricting the rights of legal and legitimate gun owners gives those contemplating mass murder more power and incentive because it is less likely anyone will be shooting back \u2013 thereby nullifying the \u201clets-make-it-harder-to-buy-guns-legally\u201d law. <\/span><\/p>\n

These are three pet peeves that wake me in the middle of the night wanting out. What are yours? <\/span><\/p>\n
